As head of the Environmental Protection Agency under President Clinton, Carol Browner developed a public reputation as a hard-nosed opponent of U.S. industrial interests.
Now as President Obama’s coordinator of energy and climate issues, she is working behind the scenes to bring together environmental and energy interests for a renewal of American industry.
"I give her very, very high marks," says Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, a Republican, who says he’s been to six meetings chaired by Browner already. "She’s very inclusive. She has really reached out and cast a very broad net."
