REC Silicon, a division of Norway’s REC Group (REC.OL) Monday announced the startup of production at its new polysilicon plant in Moses Lake, Washington (Silicon III).
The company said the facility, which employs fluidized bed technology ("FBR"), began production early last week.
The main portion of the Silicon III production is expected to be ramped-up during 2Q09 and exteding into the 3Q.
The schedule for ramp-up sets total polysilicon production estimates for the full year 2009 at 10,000 – 11,000 metric tons (MT).
"We are satisfied to have reached this important milestone and to see that production is ramping up as expected in its initial stage. However, this is a large and complex chemical plant which implements innovative new technologies, and we should therefore expect to see some interruptions during the ramp-up phase", says Erik Thorsen, President & CEO.
