China Wants to Pass Costs of Emissions to Importers

The director of China’s Department of Climate Change yesterday said the countries that buy China’s products should be responsible for the greenhouse gases emitted from producing those goods.

Speaking at a forum sponsored by the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, Gao Li said this demand is key to negotiating a fair system for reducing global emissions of greenhouse gases.

Li said 15% to 25% of China’s rapidly growing emissions are the result of products shipped abroad.

China is the top supplier of goods to the U.S.

    There is something incredibly strange about that statement. China produces goods for export using smelly old technology and then they put a carbon tax on it for the consumer to pay.
