Juwi Secures Long-Term Rooftop Solar Collaboration

The juwi group and Segro plc (SGRO.L), one of Europe’s leading property investment and developing companies, have agreed on long-term cooperation for rooftop solar installations.

The first agreement between the German renewable energy project developer and the London-based provider of business space is for a photovoltaic station on a Segro building in Frankfurt. The showcase project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2009 and will be followed by many more solar power stations on Segro properties in Europe, the companies announced.

Segro’s business property portfolio includes about a million square meters of commercial real estate in Germany alone.

“Segro’s commitment is ideal. The transition to a clean, affordable and independent power supply with stable prices can only occur if companies are willing to mount PV systems on its properties,” says Lars Falck, managing director of juwi Solar GmbH.

The project involving about 7,000 m2 of rooftop space at neckermann.de in Frankfurt, a leading mail-order company, will have production capacity of 160 kilowatts and generate 150,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, enough to power nearly 50 homes.

“By working together we are sending a signal that everyone can contribute to climate protection. The project also demonstrates that protecting the climate pays off for industry ecologically and economically,” adds Inès Reinmann, Managing Director Segro Continental Europe.
