Precious Woods (PW0.DE), the only publicly traded sustainable forestry company in the world, has been chosen to offset the greenhouse
gas emissions generated by participants attending the 2009 World Economic Forum
later this month in Davos, Switzerland.
The company’s biomass
power plant in the Brazilian Amazon replaces the former diesel-based electricity system with a renewable and
local energy source, reducing 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
The selection for the CO2-compensation of the upcoming meeting, to be held from January 28 to February 1, recognizes the sustainable impact of Precious Woods’ vision for tropical forest management.
Precious Woods has appeared several times on the SB20 List, the World’s Top Sustainable Stocks, by SustainableBusiness.com’s green investing newsletter, Progressive Investor.
The company’s core
activities include reforestation and sustainable management of tropical forests, timber processing and the trading of FSC-certified timber
products. The generation of emission rights and electricity from recovery wood represent further integral elements of the company’s
business.
