Taiwan-based, Green Energy Technology (GET) has started commercial production from its new Gen 8.5 thin film solar line, with plans to reach an annualized capacity of 30 megawatts (MW) in 1Q09 and ramp to 50 MW in 4Q09.
GET said it is the first company to mass produce large thin film modules in Taiwan and that the revenue from the new line is estimated to contribute more than 20% of the company’s sales in 2009.
The company tested and pre mass-produced over 600 thin film modules from mid November to December. The modules produced in December reached conversion rates of 7%.
The Green Energy Technology amorphous silicon line is using Applied Material SunFab design to produce solar modules with a size of 2.2 meters by 2.6 meters.
“We are planning to get TUV certification in 1Q09 for quarter size module (1.1 meters by 1.3 meters) and full size certification in 3Q09,” said Hur-Lon Lin, President of GET.
Green Energy Technology previously announced in September contracts worth of EUR 39.86 million with three German and Spainish solar system makers.
