Democrats Could Turn the Page on Energy Policy

If Democrats carry the national elections today, as projected by numerous polls and experts, they should have the strength to create significant changes in United States energy policy. 

With increased majorities in Congress, Barack Obama should be able to institute a windfall tax on oil company profits and create incentives for alternative energy, while disincentivizing dirty fossil fuels. 

Solar power, geothermal and wind companies could be among the biggest winners given that an Obama administration wants to require that 10% of electricity come from renewable sources by 2012, and 25% by 2025.

But the votes have yet to be counted…
