A new campaign has been launched to urge the next president-elect,
either John McCain or Barack Obama, to attend the international climage
change treaty negotiations in Poland in December.
Author and environmentalist Bruce McKibben, writes in a recent Grist posting
that the UN-led negotiations in Poland are the perfect opportunity for
the next president to assert a leadership role in the global fight
against climage change, before Inauguration Day in January.
The environmental organization 350.org and Grist are cooperating on a
campaign to let people all across the planet issue invitations to the
U.S. president-elect.
By visiting this website,
individuals can send an invitation, urging the next U.S. president to
immediately set a tone of active leadership on climate change by
attending the negotiations in Poland.
The goal of the negotiations is to reach an agreement by December 2009
on a successor treaty to the Kyoto Protocol, which is due to expire in
2012.
