Computer maker Lenovo (HKSE: 992; ADR: LNVGY) has set a goal for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and has established a program for recycling end-of-life devices.
Lenovo made the announcement in conjunction with joining The Climate Group, a nonprofit organization that helps businesses establish low-carbon practices.
Lenovo set a voluntary target of improving its carbon efficiency by 10% between 2007 and 2012. To reach that goal, Lenovo said it is developing energy efficient solutions in its products, is implementing energy conservation measures at existing sites, and is building new manufacturing facilities using greener materials and technology, the company said.
Lenovo is working with N.Y.-based asset management and electronics recycling firm ECO International to offer consumers and small businesses free recycling of Lenovo and IBM products.
Lenovo also is offering an electric coupon as part of its program. For every Lenovo notebook sold using the coupon, Lenovo will make a donation in the amount of the cost of powering a Lenovo notebook for a year to a renewable energy project in the buyer’s home state.
