Renewable energy developers like Spain’s Iberdrola Renewables and T. Boone Picken’s Messa Power are placing massive orders for wind turbines to build out sprawling wind farms that will add thousands of megawatts worth of electricity to the world’s power grids.
Wind turbine makers are opening new production facilities in the U.S. and abroad, trying to meet growing demand, but the waiting period for new turbines can be as long as two years–and that’s for well established and financed developers.
So, where do small towns or municipal power companies go, if they want to install a handful of turbines on local land? They look to a burgeoning market for used, refurbished turbines.
