Vestas to Build World's Largest Wind Tower Plant in Colorado

The world’s largest wind-turbine maker, Vestas Wind Systems A/S, plans to build the world’s largest tower manufacturing plant in Colorado by the end of 2010.

The Danish company said the $250 million facility will produce 900 wind towers a year and employ about 400 people.

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter said, "This is another great victory for the New Energy Economy and all of Colorado."

Vestas said it was confident the U.S. will pursue a long-term energy policy approach that will be favorable to wind power.

The company also plans to establish a research and development center in the U.S. next year.

Vestas opened its first U.S. factory in Windsor, Colorado on March 5.
