First Solar Wants to Go Utility-Scale

First Solar Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR) Chief Executive Micahel Ahearn said his company is in talks with U.S. utilities to build large-scale renewable energy projects.

The company, which has been a Wall Street champion over the last year, produces thin-film photovoltaic solar equipment. Utility-scale solar installations have thus far primarily used concentrating solar power which collects heat from the sun with mirrors to produce steam, which then drives turbines.
