The advantage that thin-film solar companies have enjoyed with investors and in the marketplace may decrease as silicon shortages are expected to ease in the years ahead.
Thin-film solar cells require substantially less silicon than traditional photovoltaic cells, making them cheaper to produce in a tight silicon market. However, thin-film cells convert a lower percentage of sunlight to electricity.
As a result, thin-film companies may be starting to feel the pinch to increase the efficiency levels of their products before silicon production increases enough to level the playing field.
