Electricity Distribution Model May Soon Change for Utilities

Last week we reported on a deal signed by Ceramic Fuel Cells to supply 50,000 micro-combined heat and power (mCHP) units to utility company Nuon.

These units would be used in-home to produce electricity, potentially changing the distribution model for the electric utility industry in Europe.

A new AP story reports how small hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to do the same thing in Japan, where Toyota and Honda are each developing fuel cells capable of producing both heat and electricity in the home.
