Northstar Wind Towers, based in Blair, Nebraska, has begun operations to produce towers for the wind industry. The company builds towers it says are engineered to meet individual turbine manufacturer’s specifications and are meant to be sold as an integrated part of the turbine assembly.
Northstar says its modular designs enable taller towers, by allowing wider base diameters than conventional tubular towers, which suffer from transportation restrictions.
Northstar says its towers can be transported on standard flatbed trucks, meaning no special trailers or oversize permits are required.
In addition, Northstar towers employ patented fastening technology, which the company says avoids costly flange-connections, while maintaining the appearance of conventional tubular towers.
Northstar says its first towers are scheduled for deployment later this year.
