PV Technologies India Ltd., a subsidiary of Moser Baer India Ltd., announced plans to purchase equipment capable of expanding its 40 megawatt (MW) thin-film solar production capacity above 600 MW by 2010.
The company said it signed a memorandum of understanding with a global equipment supplier for a 565 MW phased expansion of its capacity.
PV Technologies India said it is targeting an annual capacity of 80 MW in the first phase.
"Leaders in the PV industry will continue to emerge on the strengths of rapid scale up and technology differentiation. We see an increasingly significant role for Thin Film technologies in meeting peaking power requirements and now aim to be a significant player in this arena," said Ravi Khanna, CEO of PV Technologies.
