White Birch Paper Co. has agreed to purchase SP Newsprint Co., including it’s paper recycling subsidiary, for $350 million, according to a report.
SP Newsprint has mills in Dublin, Georgia, and Newberg, Oregon, and calls itself the second-largest 100% recycled newsprint maker in North America. SP Recycling Corporation collects recovered paper to supply the two facilities.
SP Newsprint is currently owned by three newspaper publishers: Cox Enterprises Inc., McClatchy Co., and Media General Inc.
"SP Newsprint´s world-class assets, power generating facilities and recycling organization present a compelling opportunity," said Peter Brant, chairman and CEO of White Birch Paper.
