MTI MicroFuel Cells Inc., a developer of micro fuel cells, has started its new developmental pilot production line in its facility in Albany, NY., plant.
"This is the first in a number of steps MTI Micro is taking to further our goal of manufacturing readiness in 2008 – an important precursor for high-volume manufacturing," said Peng Lim, CEO of MTI. "We are committed to ensure a process that delivers the engineering and manufacturing rigor necessary to make consistent, reliable products in 2009."
With the new pilot line, MTI Micro will continue to develop its manufacturing techniques, increase the number of units produced to satisfy potential and existing customers, and allow for more expansive testing with the delivery of larger quantities of consistent Mobion® systems.
MTI Micro is now producing complete systems from the pilot line for customer testing including units for the Department of Energy, which committed $1 million to MTI Micro’s commercialization efforts.
As part of its strategic efforts for manufacturing readiness in 2008, MTI Micro says it is working on qualifying its supply chain base, and is identifying sources for manufacturing capability.
