EPV to Build Thin Film Solar Plant in Germany

EPV SOLAR, Inc. (formerly Energy Photovoltaics, Inc.), a thin-film solar manufacturer headquartered in New Jersey, announced today that it will expand its manufacturing operations with a new facility being built in Senftenberg, Germany.

The new facility, which will be owned by EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH, a wholly-owned EPV SOLAR company, will have an initial capacity of 25 megawatts (MW) per year, according to a company release.

The Senftenberg manufacturing facility, in the state of Brandenburg, will feature EPV SOLAR’s amorphous silicon technology and proprietary manufacturing process.

According to the company, construction has begun, and manufacturing operations are expected to commence in Q408. Product sales contracts have been signed with several customers for more than 300 MW of thin-film modules for delivery through 2012, the company says.

"EPV SOLAR Germany GmbH is a priority for EPV SOLAR and is just the beginning of our capacity expansion," said Scott T. Massie, the company’s CEO.
