Advanced lighting producer Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) said last week it has appointed the chief executive of another local technology firm to its board of directors.
Frank Plastina, CEO of Morrisville telecom equipment maker Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC), was appointed to the board as of Dec. 31, 2007.
"We are pleased to have Frank join our Board of Directors," Chuck Swoboda, CEO of Cree, said in a written statement.
"Frank’s experience and insight as CEO of a company accelerating the transition to high-performance, efficient, converged networks will expand the breadth and strength of our board. This transformational insight should be very helpful to Cree as we pursue our strategy to replace traditional lighting solutions with energy-efficient, environmentally friendly LED lighting.”
Headquartered in Durham, Cree sells chips for light-emitting diodes, or LEDs. It employs about 1,300, while Tekelec employs about 650.
