EPURON Takes Over Spanish Company

EPURON GmbH has acquired Panergia, a Spanish clean energy project management and development company. With this acquisition, EPURON’s project pipeline for large-scale solar power plants in Spain has expanded to a total output of some 150 megawatts.

Panergia was founded in Madrid in 2003 and has shown a track record of fast-growing business generation over the years. The company’s project managers and engineers are among the first to develop Europe’s youngest and most dynamic-growing solar energy market.

“The take-over of Panergia will accelerate our current dynamic growth in Spain. Together, we will establish a long term leading position among the top project developers and financiers,” explained Thomas-Tim Savecke, managing director at EPURON responsible for photovoltaic and solar thermal development.

By the end of this year, EPURON will complete and connect solar energy projects in Spain that amount to an expected total capacity of more than 20 megawatts to the public power grid.Other large-scale projects are under completion and some will begin construction later this year. This makes EPURON one of the leading companies in the European market to implement large-scale photovoltaic plants.

Among these projects are solar parks developed jointly with Panergia. As early as 2005, both companies have been cooperating successfully on project development. Joint projects have included the La Junquera 1.5 megawatt park in Murcia as well as two megawatt project currently being developed in the same region, which is among Europe’s highest solar radiation areas.

The take over of Panergia is fostering concentrating solar power (CSP) development in Spain: The first co-developed CSP project with an output of 50 MW is in an advanced planning stage.

Juan Carlos de Pablo, director at Panergia, explained his reasons for the merger with the EPURON Spanish subsidiary: “We are happy to now combine our skills under one roof together with EPURON to provide a better service to our investors. Maintaining our position as one of the leading developers of clean energy plants in Spain requires increasing considerable resources. EPURON, which is a part of the global Conergy Group, is in a position to provide these resources.”

The Spanish solar energy market has grown by more than 100 % in each of the past two years. This means that the installed capacity rose from 44 megawatts in 2005 to 106 megawatts in 2006, according to reports from the Spanish Photovoltaic Industry Association ASIF. This makes the country one of the fastest-growing markets for solar energy in the world. With the revised feed-in law this past June, the Spanish government has consolidated attractive economic conditions for the operation of solar energy systems. Institutional investors in particular will benefit from the revision from the Royal Decree 661/2007.
