HSBC (HSBA.L), Europe’s largest bank, announced it would donate $100 millio for the most extensive field experiment to study the effects of climate change on forests.
The donation, which will be given out over the next five years, will fund research by four NGOs: The Climate Group, Earthwatch Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and World Wildlife Fund.
Their studies examine the impact of climate change on some of the world’s major cities, will monitor the major tropical rainforests and improve management of water supplies from the Yangtze, Amazon, Ganges and Thames rivers.
