The National Electrical Manufacturers Association has committed to eliminate inefficient lighting, but says it will not promote any specific technology, such as compact fluorescent lights.
Members of its Lamp Section have agreed to support public policies to phase out inefficient incandescent lamps over the next decade. They are calling on the federal government to develop national performance standards to avoid confusion in the marketplace.
The performance standards should be technology-neutral and begin phasing out the least efficient screw-base incandescent lights from 40 through 100 watts.
