Renewable Energy Systems Americas has purchased 26 wind turbine generators from Siemens Power Generation for its Floyd County, Texas wind farm.
The Whirlwind Energy Center will produce 59.8 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 28,000 average Texas homes. It will employ 26 Siemens wind turbines, each capable of producing 2.3 megawatts. Austin, Texas-based RES-Americas expects to begin construction of the wind farm in March and complete it later this year.
Austin Energy, a community-owned electric utility and a department of the city of Austin, has contracted to buy the power generated at the wind farm under a long-term power purchase agreement.
