Suzlon Opens First U.S. Plant

Suzlon Rotor Corp., a subsidiary of Indian wind company Suzlon Energy, recently celebrated the opening of its first U.S. wind turbine plant, in Pipestone, Minnesota.


The 230,000-square-foot plant will produce 140-foot long wind turbine blades and nose cones.


“The production of this first wind turbine blade is monumental for Suzlon as we strengthen our presence in the U.S. wind-power market and take and important step towards investing in the region,” said J.R. Tanti, director of Suzlon Infrastructure Ltd.


The facility will employ up to 275 people.


Since Suzlon Energy’s IPO last year, the stock has risen over 50%. The company plans for exports to account for 40% of 2007 revenues 80% of 2008 revenues.
