Report: Off-Shore Wind Farm Impacts on Wildlife

The results of an 8-year study on the impacts of off-shore wind farms on wildlife have been released.

The study examined the impacts of two offshore wind farms, Horns Rev and Nysted, on birds, fish, seals and benthic life.

According to the study, waterbirds tend to change their flight direction to avoid wind farms by flying several kilometers away. Birds that fly through a wind farm tend to alter altitude to avoid collisions. Some fish avoid the area while others seem to be attracted to it, depending on the species.

The Danish Energy Authority, Danish Forest and Nature Agency, Dong Energy and Vattenfall commissioned the report.
