China will be home to the world’s largest solar power station to date.
The 100 MW project, which will cost about 6.03 billion yuan (US$765 million) will be built in Dunhuang City, northwest China’s Gansu Province. It will be completed in about five years.
The city government signed a letter of intent with the Zhonghao New Energy Investment (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
The plant will covering 31,200 square meters, in a city which receives 3,362 hours of sunshine a year, and a prime area for solar energy because of its easy access to electricity transmission and communications.
The world’s largest solar plant is currently in Leipzig, Germany. The 5 MW project has 33,500 solar panels.
