The largest privately-owned solar array in California begins operating today.
It is located in Sonoma Mountain Village, a 200-acre village – the business center will be powered completely by solar energy. The 1.14 Megawatt solar array was designed and developed by PowerLight Corporation.
Built by Codding Investment, the redevelopment is located on the former Agilent Technologies campus near Sonoma State University.
Sonoma Mountain Village is a pedestrian-based community that will blend solar jobs, 2000 residential properties, retail and dining destinations.
"Sonoma Mountain Village is an extremely unique, environmentally sound and comprehensively sustainable new community," said Brad Baker, Codding Investments president and CEO. "By making the business center 100% solar-powered, we’re able to create a truly one-of-a-kind development on a scale that hasn’t been realized before and at the same time provide our customers with stable energy costs."
Collaborating with master builder Richard Pope, urban planners from Fisher and Hall Urban Design, and PowerLight Corporation, Codding is looking to attract high-tech industry and serve as an incubator for entrepreneurial businesses. Target clients include alternative energy, medical device research, high-tech, natural products and financial services.
