BP to Quadruple Solar Capacity in China, Signs Silicon Deal with REC

BP Solar announced plans to to quadruple its solar capacity in China to 100 MW (megawatts) by 2010.


BP Solar has a joint venture with China’s Xinjiang Sunoasis Company Ltd to set up BP Sunoasis in Xi’an. BP owns a minority 49% share. It focuses on the manufacturing of panels and panel automation equipment.


BP plans to spend up to US$8 billion over the next 10 years on renewable generation technologies, and expects to generate revenues of US$6 billion a year within the next decade.


In another announcement, BP Solar has signed a six year silicon contract with Norway’s REC. announced they have entered into a six year REC will supply multicrystalline silicon wafers in a contract valued at NOK 8 billion.
