Hertz Launches 'Green Collection'

Published on: September 6, 2006

Hertz has launched a new collection of fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly cars that are reservable by specific make and model, with an EPA highway fuel efficiency rating of 28 miles or more per gallon.

The Hertz Green Collection features Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Buick LaCrosse and Hyundai Sonata. Most of the Camrys, Fusions and LaCrosses also carry EPA’s SmartWay certification, indicating lower emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases.

With more than 35,000 cars in the Green Collection, Hertz guarantees availability at 50 major airport locations across the United States. The Green Collection cars are EPA highway rated at 28 MPG or better, and more than 18,000 of them are also SmartWay certified.

“With the launch of the Green Collection, Hertz expands its lead as the only major car rental company offering reservable vehicles that are right for the times for specific customer segments,” said Mark P. Frissora, CEO, The Hertz Corporation. “In addition to premium segments for luxury and sporty vehicles, Hertz now offers a reservable collection of high MPG, lower emission cars for customers who want to save on gas, drive a car with environmental benefits, but not sacrifice comfort or roominess,” he added.

“Hertz now offers 42 specific makes and models that can be reserved by customers,” said Frank Camacho, Hertz Staff VP, Marketing. “We are pleased to be able to extend our vehicle selection program to include Fusion, Camry, LaCrosse and Sonata — a group of fuel-efficient cars that are suitable for families and friends,” he added. “The program is available at 50 major U.S. airports and we will be adding locations throughout the remainder of this year,” he concluded.

SmartWay-certified vehicles receive high marks from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for limiting both air pollution and greenhouse gases, in addition to providing impressive gas mileage. According to the EPA, “Vehicles that receive this designation are very good environmental performers relative to other vehicles.”

SmartWay is given to those vehicles that score 6 or better, on a scale of 0-10, on both the Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gas Scores, and have a total score when adding the two together of 13. Visit the following website for more information:
