Magnetek, Inc (NYSE:MAG) has introduced the highest power-density “front-end” power supply available for energy-intensive applications. The Company’s new HPD-800(TM) converter packs 800 watts of 12-volt Dc power into a package 9.84 inches long by 2.36 inches wide by 1.65 inches deep, equating to over 20 watts per cubic inch.
According to the Company, such high power density is unprecedented in front-end power supplies. In addition, the HPD-800 provides power conversion efficiency in excess of 90% under full load at 230 volts Ac input, minimizing energy consumption as well as system size in broadband, data storage and other power-hungry installations.
Integral air cooling enables HPD-800 converters to operate reliably in ambient temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius over a wide Ac input range (85 to 264 volts), delivering 67 amps of 12-volt Dc output in distributed power architecture systems. Operating singly or in parallel, their ultra-compact “1U” form factor and “hot plug” ability facilitate “hot swap” system design flexibility, while I(2)C (or optional RS485) communications afford completely automatic remote system monitoring and control.
