Ecostream Spain SL has been awarded a large solar PV system contract by Globasol, the Madrid-based sustainable energy company. This turnkey system, which will have a total capacity of 14 MW in its first phase, will be designed and built by Ecostream.
Construction of the park will start in September this year and be fully operational in the second quarter of 2007. This project is the first phase of a total generating capacity of 60 MW, which is planned for the province of Murcia.
The ambitious project in the region of Lobosillo – a small city next to Murcia – encompasses 140 solar systems each of which will generate 100 kW. The first phase will contain over 83,000 solar modules from Chinese suppliers YingliSolar and TopSolar. Ecostream, a subsidiary of the international Econcern group will be the turnkey main contractor for this project.
Alfredo Laiz, General Director Ecostream Spain, added: “The system has been contracted in just six months. All those involved worked extremely hard: from contracting modules and other components from our suppliers through to project engineering and licensing the project with the authorities. Teamwork with the customer is the key to success and will remain so in the period ahead.” Ecostream will implement this project with a multi-national project team.
Furthermore, in many fields of Ecostream’s operations the customers are closely involved. “Together we are strong and capable of delivering this top-class project. We’re very happy that our team can start the installation soon”, concludes Steven Pleging, CEO of Ecostream International.
Globasol was created in 2005 by a group of investors led by the Hidalgo family – owners of Globalia Corporacin Empresarial (www.globalia.com). Their main aim is to promote sustainable development – focusing on renewable energy – in Spain.
The General Director of the Globalia group, Javier Hidalgo, stated: “We will continue to invest in the energy and sustainable tourism sectors in Murcia. We see solar energy as the best way to promote sustainable energy production, but will also make sure we treat the environment responsibly in everything that we do”.
The 14-MW park is Ecostream’s second large-scale solar project in Spain: Alfredo Laiz concluded, “In March 2007, other projects with a total of 9-MW will be finalized in the regions of Seville, Badajoz and Ciudad Real.”
