Plug Power Commissions Next-Generation GenSys(R) Fuel Cell Systems

Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq: PLUG), today announced the commissioning and testing of 10 next-generation GenSys fuel cell systems.

The next-generation GenSys fuel cell system is being designed for remote prime power applications, where it is expected to provide both economic and performance benefits over traditional remote prime power generation technologies. This project will serve as a proving ground to characterize reliability and enhance the product in preparation for its commercial introduction.

Ten 5-kilowatt, grid-independent, prime-power, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) fueled systems were commissioned last week at the Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. The systems have been configured to supplement the electrical grid and for testing of various load profiles to simulate real-world demands.

The fuel cell systems are designed to transmit data via wireless modem to Plug Power. Detailed system operational data will be sent to the Company’s headquarters to help enhance product performance and improve system reliability throughout the one-year field trial.

Partners in the project include: Advanced Power Technology Office, Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at the Robins Air Force Base in Georgia — site host and program sponsor; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center, Construction Engineering Research Laboratory — contracting agent and program manager; Concurrent Technologies Corporation — on-site logistical support and program manager; and LOGANEnergy — installation and service provider.
