Western Wind Energy Corp., based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, with subsidiaries in Arizona, California and New Brunswick, is building its first wind farm in Tehachapi, California.

The company announced it completed its $550,000 payment for The Windridge Wind Farm, which is about 72 miles from Los Angeles. 43 wind turbines will be on 200 acres of land. The company also plans to build 18 megawatts of additional generation at the site. The purchase includes the balance of a 30-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison Co., which expires in 2014.

Western Wind Energy will pay the balance of the acquisition by way of a five-year convertible note in the amount of $275,000 at an interest rate of 8 percent per year.
