According to the Shanghai Daily news, Shanghai approved a proposal to install 100,000 square meters of solar panels over the next two years.
As part of a three-year plan to boost the use of solar energy, the government will subsidize construction on a wide varity of buildings including offices, apartment buildings, universities and nursing homes.
Shanghai has 30 solar projects approved for completion by 2007, including several solar plants with a combined capacity of 5,000 kilowatts.
Solar panels will be installed on 20-30 energy-intensive industrial factories, high tech parks, Songjiang University Town, and New Jiangwan City.
