Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMCR) has been notified that is has been accepted to the Ceres network of companies that are committed to enhancing value by integrating environmental and social performance into business strategies and initiatives.
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is the first publicly owned coffee company to join this prestigious network of approximately 70 companies of all sizes, including Aveda Corporation, Seventh Generation, Ford Motor Company, Green Mountain Power Corporation, Interface, Inc., and Nike, Inc. In 1989, Ceres was formed as a partnership between environmental and investor organizations to align investments with environmental and social responsibility performance. Shortly thereafter, it launched the Ceres Principles, a 10-point code of corporate environmental and social conduct that quickly became a cornerstone of the corporate social responsibility movement. In 1997, Ceres introduced the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which today is the international standard for reporting on social, economic and environmental performance.
Since 2002, GRI has been an independent institution. Today over 700 companies from around the world use GRI reporting guidelines.
