Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. Nasdaq: QTWW), a leading designer, manufacturer and integrator of packaged fuel systems and accessories for specialty vehicles and applications including hydrogen fuel cells, hybrids and alternative fuel applications, has been added to the Russell 2000 and Russell 3000 indexes.
The Russell 3000 index is reconstituted annually and reflects the largest 3,000 U.S. companies in terms of market capitalization as of the end of May, representing about 98% of the U.S. stock market. The top 1,000 companies in this index make up the large-cap Russell 1000. The other 2,000 companies are in the small-cap Russell 2000.
Membership in the Russell 3000, which remains in place for one year, means automatic inclusion in the large-cap Russell 1000 or small-cap Russell 2000, as well as the appropriate growth and style indexes. Russell determines membership for its equity indexes primarily by market capitalization rankings and style attributes.
Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. More than $2.5 trillion in assets currently are benchmarked to them. Investment managers who oversee these funds purchase shares of member stocks according to that company’s weighting in the particular index.
