Medis Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:MDTL) has been honored with an award from research firm Frost & Sullivan, for Excellence in Technology in the field of microfuel cells (fuel technology category).
Meeting the need for high performance, high efficiency microfuel cells, Medis formulated an inventive fuel cell technology that uses borohydride-based compositions as a fuel and an alkaline electrolyte. The Medis proprietary fuel mixture is non-toxic and non-flammable, making the technology commercially attractive.
This fuel technology uses a liquid alkaline electrolyte with minimal amounts of noble metal loading, which brings down the cost. The technology eliminates the need for supplementary support components, used in other fuel cell technologies. The Medis microfuel cell is thus more compact and less costly than other microfuel cells.
