According to an article in Asia Pulse, the Nanjing PV-Tech Co., Ltd. has begun construction of China’s largest and most advanced solar cell production base in Nanjing Jiangning Development Zone.
The first phase of the project is estimated to cost US$30 million and is scheduled to start production in June.
When the three phases of the project are completed by the end of 2005, the plant will have a capacity of 100 MW of solar cells.
China’s State Development and Reform Commission is investing 10 billion yuan (US$1.2 billion) to promote solar energy in China. The Chinese Electrical Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CEEG) plans to generate solar cells totaling 600 MW by 2008, with 15 billion yuan of sales value.
