Australia: National Solar Energy Center to Open

Published on: February 21, 2005

Due to open in July, the new National Solar Energy Technology Centre (NSETC) in Newcastle, Australia, will be home to the largest high-concentration solar array – connected solar panels – in the Southern Hemisphere, capable of generating enough electricity to power more than 100 homes.

Construction of the $1.5 million center begins this month. It will serve as a showcase for solar thermal technologies and play a key role in continuing research into efficient, low emission energy generation.
