I don’t normally comment but… I’ve read Nudge as well as other of the latest and greatest “pop” psychology books. The environmental/sustainability/climate change movement needs leadership that understands the human brain and psyche. We can “nudge” people and make ideas “stick” (Made to Stick- great book. Psychology and it influences are our greatest ally in solving the big issues facing our society
Generally capital investment follows greatest ROI. So a car is great ROI (“sure beats walking”) but it also has a status component which also has ROI in our society. I drive an old beater (my version of automotive recycling), however I’m looked down upon by the movers and shakers in town. Who knows how much business it has cost me because I don’t drive a muscular SUV? Some ideas take millions of years to change (selective breeding). Unfortunately the aggressive SUV guys seems to be having all the kids these days.
