The theme of Earth Day 2000 will be “New Energy for a New Era” and is a great opportunity for businesses to get media attention for your work and accelerate the transition from outdated fossil fuel and nuclear energy technologies to clean, safe renewable energy sources.
The kick-off will be on April 22nd, 1999, when Denis Hayes will officially launch the international campaign in Washington, DC. by introducing the National Energy Agenda. This launch will help generate local media interest in your campaigns and events throughout 1999. The launch will include announcements by environmental groups, local governments, businesses, schools and other institutions about their
commitments to energy-related projects over the course of the following year.
Your projects might include:
— endorsing the Earth Day 2000 National Energy Agenda.
— making a commitment to reduce energy use, install efficient appliances, build green etc. over the following year.
— begin purchasing green power in states where it is available.
— adopt a recycled paper procurement policy.
— announce a program to encourage less automobile dependence by employees, or purchase alternative fuel vehicles.
