Some states are reducing incentives for solar power systems, just as the federal government steps up its support, according to an Associated Press report.
Massachusetts, for example reduced it’s rebate program by $1 per watt on January 1, and Connecticut cut back it’s program last October.
According to the report, more states are expected to follow suit, as they struggle to balance budgets undercut by reduced tax revenues. Furthermore, the states, which have long been the primary supporters of renewable energy, may see an opportunity to pass some of their burden to a more willing federal government.
In the end, it may be the residential solar power market that suffers. In some states, the best time to invest in solar technology may have already passed the report states.
