Staples, the nationwide office-supply retailer, has discontinued business with Indonesia’s Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), one of the world’s biggest paper companies, due to concerns over environmental issues, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
The Wall Street Journal quoted a Staples executive as saying the company had cut off dealing with APP at the end of January, because there was no indication that APP was attempting to protect the environment.
A spokesman for Staples said APP paper made up 5% of Staples’ paper proucts.
Environmental groups have said forest-clearing by the APP group is endangering tigers, elephants and orangutan as well as destroying preciously diverse flora.
