Seattle-based Grays Harbor Ocean Energy Company splashed onto the national scene yesterday, when news spread that the company has applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for permission to install wave energy prohects off the coasts of six states.
The company wants to build seven projects at an estimated cost of $28 billion. Each project would cover roughly 100 square miles.
The states involved are California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.
The company said it would fund the projects primarily through private investments.
A 60-day public comment period on the permitting process began November 28.
