Major paper products manufacturer Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) today announced the nationwide launch of a line of toilet paper, napkins and paper towels containing a blend of recycled material and virgin fiber.
The company has been selling the Scott Naturals line in select markets for a year.
Scott Naturals toilet paper contains 40% recycled fiber, while the paper towels contain 60%, and napkins 80%.
The line also includes flushable wipes made with aloe vera and fibers that the company said are 100% of "derived from sustainable resources."
The outer packaging for the toilet paper and paper towels is made from 20% post-consumer recycled plastic, and the cardboard cores are made from 100% recycled fiber.
Some surveys have revealed approximately 86% of the general U.S. population are interested in using more ‘green’ household products, however the market share of products containing recycled fiber is less than 1%.
The Scott Naturals products will be available at North American retail locations in mid-April.
Kimberly Clark, as well as other major paper products companies Georgia Pacific and Proctor & Gamble have been under pressure from environmental groups for years to create lines of recycled-fiber products.
Georgia Pacific and Proctor & Gamble (NYSE: PG-W) still do not have such lines.
