Hospitality Consortium to Green Supply Chain

A new industry group, the Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium, aims to improve the sustainability of hotel supply chains.

Launched this week, the Consortium brings together hotel brands, suppliers, architectural firms and purchasing companies.

Led by consulting firm MindClick SGM, the group will work together to green the furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) supply chain for the hotel industry.

One of its primary goals is to develop an industry-wide Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Index (HSPI) which will  comprehensively measure the sustainability of FF&E suppliers and the products they sell.

Other goals include establishing key performance indicators that enhance the environmental and social impact of the hotel industry.

With nearly 51,000 lodging properties in the United States alone, and billions of dollars spent on FF&E purchases a year, the hospitality industry can have an important impact on the sustainability of the products it buys.

Consortium leaders say they recognize that reducing their environmental footprint can only be accomplished through a combination of green buildings, operations and greening the supply chain.

Consortium founding members include Marriott International, Audit Logistics, Benjamin West, Delta Faucet Company, Innvision, InterfaceFLOR, PE International Inc., RTKL, SERA Architects, and Valley Forge Fabrics.
