Hara Wins Major Abu Dhabi Contract

Hara, a provider of environmental and energy management software, today announced that it has signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), the largest state-run utility in the United Arab Emirates.

The efficiencies gained from the Hara™ Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) deployment are expected to save the Emirate of Abu Dhabi US$3 Billion over 10 years. Peak demand reductions resulting from the deployment are estimated to be over 4 gigawatts (GW) in 2020, allowing for deferred construction of several 500-megawatts (MW) conventional natural gas power plants.

Hara will serve as the primary environmental and energy management technology partner for ADWEA’s sustainability initiative. The Hara EEM implementation will provide system-wide consumption monitoring as well as conservation and efficiency investment modeling for over 200,000 commercial and residential facilities. By providing a holistic view of energy consumption in the region, the solution enables the identification, prioritization and tracking of energy efficiency projects on a large scale.

Hara EEM will also serve as the core technology platform for optimizing Abu Dhabi’s energy and electricity use, its greenhouse gas emissions and will provide advanced analytical support for the implementation of the region’s smart grid and alternative energy investments.

ADWEA supplies electricity and potable water to the population of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi including the cities of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. ADWEA serves more than 1.4 million people, representing more than 39% of the UAE’s total population, over an area of approximately 67,340 square kilometers, about 87% of the UAE’s total area.

Deployed in over 97 countries, Hara EEM is a cloud-based solution that enables organizations to strategically manage and optimize their energy and natural resource usage and identify and execute efficiency strategies across the enterprise and value chain. Hara works with companies and government organizations to establish each client’s environmental and energy record, identify and prioritize reduction projects, and implement best practices.

Hara customers include leading organizations such as Aerojet, Akamai, City of Las Vegas, City of Palo Alto, City of Philadelphia, Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), Diebold (NYSE: DBD), Hasbro (NYSE: HAS), Intuit (Nasdaq: INTU), News Corporation (Nasdaq: NWS) and Safeway (NYSE: SWY).

The company is funded by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, JAFCO, and Nth Power.
