The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has created a new web portal designed to connect investors and entrepreneurs with innovative renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
The Technology Commercialization Portal gives access to more than 200 technology marketing summaries, as well as thousands of patents and patent applications.
The site also allows users to browse technologies and intellectual property available for licensing that were developed by DOE laboratories and participating research institutions.
Technologies are divided into 14 Categories:

- Biomass and Biofuels
- Building Energy Efficiency
- Electricity Transmission and Distribution
- Energy Analysis Models, Tools and Software
- Energy Storage
- Geothermal
- Hydrogen and Fuel Cell
- Hydropower, Wave and Tidal
- Industrial Technologies
- Solar Photovoltaic
- Solar Thermal
- Vehicles and Fuels
- Wind Energy
Descriptions explain why technologies are unique and the beneficial roles they could play in the marketplace. It also notes where in the development process a particular technology is.
For instance, a "Heat Transfer Interface For Thermo-Solar Energy" in development at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory "promises to be more efficient than conventional thermo-solar energy methods."
The interface uses "nanotube forests" attached to the exterior of a heat exchanger to absorb sunlight with greater efficiency. DOE says the invention will be of interest to utility companies investing in power plant improvements as well as farmers or homeowners seeking to generate their own power.
The website (at the link below) is part of the DOE’s Technology Transfer initiatives, supported by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
