Centrosolar Opens 150-MW German Factory

After just ten months of building time, Centrosolar Group AG last week officially opened one of the largest German solar module factories in Wismar.

From 2010 on, the new facility will produce 150 megawatts (MW) of solar modules per year. investment in the new 47,000-square-meters factory was approximately EUR 23 million.

Five assembly lines will produce crystalline modules primarily for grid-connected systems. Additionally modules for standalone systems will be crafted that will for example generate power to electrical gadgets on boats and RVs. The new facilities will also produce in-roof modules for roof-integration as well as customised modules.

Centrosolar Group AG is among Europe’s leading suppliers of photovoltaic (PV) systems for roofs and related components, with currently almost 800 employees and revenue of EUR 220 million in 2007. Its product range comprises complete photovoltaic systems, modules, mounting systems and solar glass. The company has PV module production plants in Wismar, Germany and Doesburg, the Netherlands, as well as a solar glass plant in Fürth, Germany. Together with Qimonda AG, it is currently building a solar cell factory in Porto, Portugal. The company has its own sales offices in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the USA. It generates more than half its revenue internationally.
